Organ Scholar, Matthew Burgess

Matthew Burgess comes to Westminster Cathedral as Organ Scholar having spent three years as Organ Scholar at The Queen’s College, Oxford. At Queen’s he accompanied the chapel choir in their regular services and concerts whilst studying for a BA in Music. Whilst at Oxford Matthew gained both the Associateship and Fellowship diplomas of The Royal College of Organists, the latter with multiple prizes. He currently studies the organ with David Graham.

Matthew was educated at The Judd School, Tonbridge and for six years attended Kent Music Academy on Saturdays. As a violinist, he has played with Kent County Youth Orchestra and Oxford University Orchestra and has also been active as a chamber music player. Matthew is experienced as an accompanist both on piano and organ, having accompanied choirs and soloists in concerts and exams both at school and university. He also enjoys long-distance walking and photography.
