Welcome to Westminster Cathedral
Pentecost
The feast of Pentecost, which originally celebrated the first fruits of the harvest (cf. Ex 23:14), became in later times a memorial and renewal of the covenant of Sinai where the law was given to Israel to make of them "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" (Ex 19:6) on condition that they would remain faithful to the prescriptions of the Torah. The history of the old covenant (or Old Testament) shows Israel's recurring infidelity and God’s decision to establish a new covenant: ‘…not a covenant like the one I made with their ancestors…they broke that covenant of mine...No, this is the covenant I will make… Deep within them I will plant my Law, writing it on their hearts. Then I will be their God and they will be my people’ (Jer 31: 31-33; cf. Ez 36: 26-28).

We continue to expand the range of product in our gift shop which relates to or echoes the art and architecture of the Cathedral. Recent such editions are glass roundels which replicate in glass images, typically mosaics which can be seen in the Cathedral. The image of Our Lady of Walsingham which adorns the side of the pulpit in the Cathedral is a good example of this.
